What Country Is Dimitrov From? Is Grigor Dimitrov Russian?

Bulgarian professional tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, is from Bulgaria.

He was born in Haskovo, Bulgaria and currently resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Grigor Dimitrov was born on 16 May 1991.

His career-high ATP singles ranking is world No. 3, which he achieved in November 2017 after winning the season-ending ATP Finals.

The 30 year-old is the most successful Bulgarian male tennis player to date, both in terms of ranking reached —as of 2021 he is the only Bulgarian tennis player ever to be ranked inside the top ten ATP singles— and prize money won, being the only male Bulgarian player to reach US$1m and later on 18 October 2021 became the 25th male tennis player ever to win $20m.

Dimitrov won the Bulgarian Sportsperson of the Year award in 2014 and 2017, the first and second time a tennis player has won the award since its creation in 1958. He won the Balkan Athlete of the Year award in 2017.

Dimitrov is also the first (and only) Bulgarian male tennis player to win an ATP title in singles (after he won in October 2013 at Stockholm) and reach a final in doubles (in 2011) as well as the only Bulgarian male player to reach the fourth round or better at a Grand Slam tournament.

Dimitrov is also the first Bulgarian to qualify for, and later win, the ATP Finals. He has won eight ATP singles titles to date.
