Tyrah is a children’s book author. She published her debut children’s book in the spring of 2017 titled “Grammy and Me,” which The book tells the story of a young girl who spends her day with her grandmother. It is based on Tyrah’s personal experiences with her great-grandmother, who died in 2014. “She and I were extremely close. I spent most of my summer days as a child with her at her house while my parents were at work”, she said.
Prior to publishing the book, she first wrote her first draft and illustrations in early 2015 and took two years to complete only 20 pages of the story. She said, “Everything had to be right. I wanted to show her essence throughout the book perfectly. Losing her was a huge hardship in my life, and even though my grammy isn’t alive to read my story today, or be a part of this journey with me, a huge part of her still feels like she is here with me, because this book exists.”
Tyrah states that one of goals and ambitions with the book is to reinforce the importance of family bonding and values to children, “One of my goals with this book is to reinforce the importance of family bonding and values to children. Also, I want to encourage young children to explore their creative side. Write more and read more, because great things can come out of it later in life.”
