Gary Lockwood is an American actor and the first husband of Stefanie Powers an American actress and singer. The former couple were married from 1966 to 1972.
Lockwood co-starred in an episode of ABC’s Love, American Style with his then wife Stefanie Powers as a newlywed who gets his tongue locked around a doorknob. In 1983, he appeared as a guest star in the sitcom Hart to Hart (“Emily by Hart”) alongside Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers, his ex-wife at the time.
Gary Lockwood is most known for his roles as astronaut Frank Poole in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), and Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell in Star Trek II: The Next Generation’s second pilot episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (1966).
From the early 1960s through the mid-1990s, he appeared as the title character in The Lieutenant (1963-1964). Between 1959 and 2004, Lockwood featured in forty theatrical and made-for-TV films, as well as eighty TV guest appearances, including the CBS 1975 family drama Three for the Road and Barnaby Jones, in which he frequently played a villain.
