Sam Querrey, born October 7, 1987, graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in California. With a bit of self-determination and persuasion from his father, Sam decided to turn pro after high school, turning down a scholarship to the University of Southern California.

Querrey became the first player in tennis history to record a win in a challenger event in his debut season. That year he played in the Indian Wells Masters, Countrywide Classics and 2006 US Open.
