Rob Lowe has come under criticism for creating a cringe-worthy remark about a 16-year-old girl embroiled in his sex tape controversy. During a visit to Sirius XM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” earlier this week, the 55-year-old actor revisited his decades-old error and prompted a fresh uproar for his remarks.
The former “The West Wing” does lament that he “didn’t make any money off” the frank footage, not sharing his regret regarding the sex tape. “I invented [the sex tape],” he said jokingly. “And the problem was, I didn’t make any money off of it like everybody does now. I was too stupid.”
The fiasco for keeping him sober was also praised by Rob. “I woke up one day, was like, ‘What am I doing with my life?’ … I think it’s the best thing that ever happened to me,” he said. “Honestly, I do, because it got me sober. Sober got me married. Been married 29 years and have two great sons. So, I don’t think any of that happens without going through that scandal.”
Because of his remarks on the 1988 scandal, the “Brothers & Sisters” alum has since been chastised. “@RobLowe reflects on the infamous #scandal that changed his life: ‘It got me sober’. Very glad you are #sober . Very sad you don’t wish to #apologize to the 16 year old #girl.”
Another slammed Rob as “creepy, “cringeworthy and gross.” A third user commented, “It is repulsive that Rob Lowe’s shame is not that he had intercourse with a 16-year-old.” Another mocked him, “So an affluent white male conservative feels open enough to admit the greatest thing about his life is taped child abuse. An audacious pass, @RobLowe! “

In statutory abuse, you put the statue.” She sarcastically added, “I had such a crush on Rob as a little kid. If only I realized that was when I was going to get my best chance.
Rob did not respond to the uproar. He has maintained in the past that he did not realize the child was underage. Rob never received a felony prosecution for sleeping with the 16-year-old girl because at the moment, when it was elevated to 16 in 1995, the age of consent in Georgia was 14. Nevertheless, being interested in such a video was unlawful for those under the age of 18.
