Judge Jon Beetem sentenced James Addie to a mandatory life sentence in Jefferson City for murdering his fiancée, Molly Watson, in 2018. The sentencing took place in July 2021.

Nearly after three years and with multiple delays, the trial of James Addie, who shot and killed his soon-to-be wife Molly Watson, began Monday, July 2021.

On the hearing, Cole County Judge Jon Beetem sentenced James for life for murdering his fiancee Molly Watson.

Addie was also sentenced to 10 years for armed criminal action, which would be served consecutively to the life sentence.

Molly Watson was killed on April 27, 2018, in a remote area of Monroe County.

She planned to marry Addie two days later at the Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center in Columbia, Mo.

However, James was still married to Melanie Addie, a lieutenant at the Moberly Correctional Facility.

They lived together with their daughter, Emma, in a home outside of Santa Fe in far Monroe County near the Audrain County line.

Melanie testified that she was unaware of Addie’s relationship with Watson during the trial.

James Addie spends his time in Jail in Missouri after his heinous crime was exposed to the world.

He defiantly had confidence that he would never be caught and find some escape route being a guard in a correctional facility.

The Judge opened the sentencing hearing rejecting a petition from Addie’s lead attorney, Thomas Kirsch.

The attorney requested the jury’s verdict to find Addie not guilty or order a new trial.

Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Talley Smith said that Justice has been served today. James Addie will never be released from prison in Missouri.

Molly Watson was living in Monroe County, and she was 35 years old at the time of her death in 2018. 

Molly was in deep love with James Addie, a guard at the correctional facility. However, James’ actions destroyed two families; the family of his victim, Molly Watson, and his own.

Furthermore, the attorney told the media that nothing could bring Ms Watson back to her family, who loved her very much.

On April 29, a Cole County Circuit Court jury needed just 2.5 hours to convict Addie on charges of Molly’s first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
