Kevin was up in Gardena and attended Gardena High School, where he was president of the student body and president of the District-Wide Association of Student Councils for the Los Angeles Unified School District, demonstrating an early interest in politics. He went on to Morehouse College after matriculation and earned a degree in Political Science. Southwestern Law School awarded him a J.D., which he used to further his study.
Kevin began representing victims of drug-affected communities after completing his schooling and entering the internship programme at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Kevin worked as a clerk for Judge David W. Williams while at Southwestern Law School, and after Williams’ appointment as judge of the Inglewood Municipal Court, Kevin joined the California Bench as the state’s youngest judge. He was taken before the Superior Court the following year.
He worked as a judge for the next seven years, overseeing over 60,000 cases ranging from minor offences to sex crimes and murder. He was hired as a legal correspondent and adviser for PBS as a result of his effective work. Kevin, on the other hand, suffered a setback when his job was taken away from him due to comments he made on PBS and an apparent conflict of interest.
