American bluegrass musician Bobby Van Osborne lived from December 7, 1931, until June 27, 2023. He and his brother Sonny Osborne co-founded the Osborne Brothers, and both organizations inducted him into their halls of fame. He is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Osborne served in the US Marine Corps, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for valor and was honorably discharged in 1953.
At the Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music in Hyden, Kentucky, Osborne taught bluegrass music. His main instrument was the mandolin.
As a member of the Osborne Brothers, I was elected to the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2002.
At the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, Original, a solo album, was nominated for Best Bluegrass Album.
