Ana Villafane On Your Feet
In the fall of 2014, the creators and producers of the biographical musical “On Your Feet!” launched an international casting search dubbed ‘Reach Gloria’. The search allowed people all over the world to audition for a spot in the cast of the musical. People from many places such as Los Angeles, Australia, Colombia, and Singapore auditioned by submitting videos online or auditioning at one of two open casting halls, one in New York City and the other in Miami.
Ana was not able to attend, she, however, submitted a video for her audition for the cause. In three days, she was called to audition before Jerry Mitchell, the show’s director, as well as the Estefans. On the 13th of April the year after, Ana, along with Josh Segarra was announced on the “Today Show” on NBC as the new stars for the upcoming Broadway-bound musical. In an exclusive interview with InStyle, Ana said:
I feel a very big responsibility to portray her in a real way. I don’t think you can actually replicate Gloria Estefan—you can only do your best to tell her story and be true to the music. Because I grew up performing her music at talent shows, ‘Reach’ was the first song I ever sang in public when I was 9 years old. That’s what we would jam to on our way to school.
